Compassionate, Insightful Therapy Rooted in Depth and Connection

Dr. Heather Hoyt, Ph.D.,

Licensed Psychologist

Providing telehealth in Idaho

Hello! I’m Dr. Hoyt!

Heather Hoyt

I am an Idaho native who is proud to be a licensed psychologist in the state of Idaho. I earned a PhD in clinical psychology and a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute in Carpinteria, CA. My graduate degrees include an emphasis in Depth Psychology. I completed a pre-doctoral internship and post-doctoral residency at Allendale Association Bradley Counseling Center in the Chicago area. My clinical training included extensive experience working with a variety of people of different ages, backgrounds, cultures, and life experiences.

I have advanced training in working with children ages 0-5, parents, couples, perinatal mental health, military families, and depth psychology.

In addition to practicing general psychology, I specialize in working with parents of young children, to assist them with understanding themselves and their children, strengthening family connections, and responding to challenging behavior. This results in emotionally healthy, strong, resilient families, which leads to children growing into emotionally healthy adults.

My Approach

My approach is rooted in psychodynamic therapy, which emphasizes the importance of self-exploration, unconscious patterns, and early experiences that continue to influence thoughts, emotions, and relationships. I believe that therapy is a balance between deepening self-understanding and making concrete changes that lead to a more fulfilling, values-driven life. The work often involves learning to sit with discomfort, untangling internal obstacles, and forging a new path forward—one that feels more authentic, connected, and intentional.

I tailor therapy to each individual’s unique needs, integrating psychodynamic principles with other evidence-based approaches, such as mindfulness and acceptance-based practices, Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), and Motivational Interviewing. I value weaving research and psychological insight into the therapeutic process to ground the work in both depth and practical application.

I strive to offer a thoughtful, attuned space for reflection, healing, and growth—helping you uncover the patterns that hold you back and move toward a life that is rich with meaning and connection.

What It’s Like to Work With Me

Forested Mountain

Therapy begins with exploring both what has been working well and where pain and suffering have taken hold. Understanding your history is an important part of the process, but only in so much as it informs your present experience and the patterns that shape your life today.

Therapy is a dynamic process, rooted in a trusting relationship between patient and therapist. Together, we work to explore patterns, uncover meaning, and support growth, healing, and lasting change.

I work collaboratively with individuals, couples, and families, recognizing that you are the expert in your own life, relationships, and values. Your insights and experiences are essential to the process, while I bring my expertise in helping bridge the gap between where you are and where you want to be. Therapy is most effective when there is openness and honesty about what feels helpful and what does not. I provide thoughtful reflections, offering both support and challenge to foster meaningful growth.

Target Icon

TARGETED

Like a skilled guide, I will help you identify what needs to shift to move toward the life and relationships you want. Together, we will explore the internal and external barriers that may be holding you back. Therapy is most effective when it is tailored to you, which means I will adjust my approach to best fit your strengths, challenges, and goals—whether for yourself or your relationships.

Compassion Icon

COMPASSIONATE

Growth and healing happen in a space of understanding, not blame. Whether working on yourself or your relationship, therapy should feel meaningful and reinforcing. Effective therapy is not about one person being “the problem” but about recognizing patterns, understanding their deeper function, and finding more workable, fulfilling ways of relating to yourself and others.

Children ages 0-5

Telehealth and Virtual Therapy

My goal is to make therapy more accessible by removing common barriers that can make it difficult to prioritize your mental health.

With virtual sessions, there’s no need to plan around travel time or parking, and it can be especially helpful for those balancing work, childcare, or other responsibilities. Telehealth allows you to engage in therapy from the comfort of your own home, in a private and familiar space where you feel at ease.

While virtual therapy offers convenience, it does not compromise depth or effectiveness. Our work together remains just as intentional, reflective, and personalized—helping you explore patterns, navigate challenges, and create meaningful change in a way that fits your life.
